Flying Disc at the World Games 2025: Ultimate & Disc Golf Take the Stage
🌍 What are The World Games?
The World Games are an official, IOC-recognized multi-sport event held every four years. They showcase around 30 sports that are not (yet) part of the Olympic program, including Korfball, Speed Skating, Sport Climbing, Sumo, and Flying Disc.
The event is organized by the International World Games Association (IWGA), and the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has been a member since 1995.
What makes The World Games special:
-
Top-level international competition, comparable to the Olympics
-
Focus on fair play, sustainability, and diversity
-
Hosted at existing sports venues
-
Worldwide live streaming of all events
Ultimate is a fast-paced team sport played on a 100 x 37 meter field with mixed-gender teams of 7 women and 7 men. At any given time, 7 players are on the field per team.
Objective of the game:
The disc is passed forward between teammates. Players must stop once they catch the disc and can only pivot to pass. A point is scored when the disc is caught in the opponent’s end zone.
What makes Ultimate unique:
No referees, not even at the World Games! Instead: self-officiating and the Spirit of the Game
High-speed direction changes, vertical leaps, strategic play, inspired by football, basketball, and American football
Mixed-gender teams encourage equality and diversity
Format at the World Games 2025:
8 nations, mixed teams
Games played to 13 points
Germany qualified through top performances at the 2024 World and European Championships
Matches take place from August 12–16 in Chengdu

Discipline 2: Disc Golf – The Precise Sibling of Traditional Golf
Disc Golf is an individual sport where players throw specialized discs toward metal baskets ("targets"). The goal is to complete each hole with the fewest possible throws, similar to traditional golf.
What you should know:
-

-
Discs vary depending on distance and technique: driver, midrange, and putter
-
The player with the lowest total score wins the round
Disc Golf at the World Games:
-
Held from August 8–10, 2025 in Chengdu
-
German athletes are officially qualified
-
Emphasis on technique, reading the wind, and mental focus
-
The sport has a rapidly growing community in Germany as well
